About PermitSense
Built in Ontario for the people who prepare permit packages.
A careful first reader for your drawings, so the first round of comments happens at your desk instead of at the city.
Every round of comments costs months.
A permit package goes back and forth until it meets the code and the by-law. In Burlington, city staff report that getting a building permit “typically involves 3 to 4 submissions before a permit is issued.” City of Burlington staff report BB-05-24, Resubmission of Building Permits
Each round costs time, and time on a development project is expensive. An Altus Group study for the Ontario Association of Architects put the cost of one month of delay on a 100-unit apartment building at $274,881. Cost of Site Plan Delays, 2024
PermitSense moves the first round of comments to your desk. You upload the drawings and specifications, and it checks them against the Ontario Building Code and your municipality's zoning by-law. You get the likely comments, their severity and a suggested fix in minutes, while changes are still cheap.
What it does not do
It does not issue permits, and its report is not legal or engineering advice. The registered professional of record stays responsible for the package. Think of it as a careful first reader who knows the code sections an examiner will look at.
